Review of post colonial movies Midnight's children and Reluctant Fundamentalist

Respected sir and fellow classmates,

here, i am sharing my views on both post colonial movies.

1) Midnight's Children
This is book by Salman Rushdie and afterwards film directed by Mira Nire.  There are many characters their but main are three saleem, shiva and radha. we can find here identity crises in this movie from the starting to the end. Story goes bit weird like their is black magic thing and also they believe in magic or supernatural power which shows that they got because they born in midnight of partition of india and pakistan. There is thing happen like nurse interchange the child who born in midnight and put rich child to the poor and poor once to the rich and in that thing their religion also got changed shiva became saleem and saleem became shive.

  • Post Colonial angle:
Setting of this movie or novel is time after partition and because of which we can find many aspect of post colonialism. Even India became independent from British but still their mentality is dependent and have that feeling of control that still prevail in the minds of the people. Time of emergency also we can find in that movie.

2) Reluctant Fundamentalist:
This is book by Mohsin Hamid and also he was write screen play for that movie which directed by Deepa Maheta.  Main focus of this movie is on questioned identity of Muslim in America or in many places of world just because they are Muslim and they are from Pakistan. Here protagonist  Changez Khan is from Pakistan and how his life changes after the attack of terrorist on world trade centre.  In his outer life and personal life all he feels trouble just because he is Pakistani. He is being centered  everywhere and in last get frustrate and get back to Pakistan.

  • Post Colonial angle:
Here we find that thing in identity who survive in America which is called as most civilized country in world or super power country in world.  And how one man finds problems in living in super power country as being Muslim.
