Review - Rang De Basnti

Rang De Basanti

This film was directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mahera and written by Prasoon Joshi. Film was released on The Republic Day in 2006. It was one of the rare film which liked by the people and critically acclaimed also. This film made an impression that can never faded.

On Independence Day of 2017 we saw this movie in our department of English at Bhavnagar University. Our sir arranged movie screening and because of which we got chance to experienced this exceptional movie. i literally feel goose bumps while watching this movie. I loved movie but personally feel that there can be better end than that coz all the characters died at the end but not in convinced way they can go to the media then can surrender them selves or after declaring on radio they can came out and surrender them selves except being there in close radio station. and also commanders can not attack like this but that is other issue of dirty politics.

In the very beggining of the movie first frame is book cover which talks about maxist idea of socialism, class system etc.. so we can find that this movie is basically anti capitalism and talks about socialism. This films provocs many ideas about religion problem also and gave focus on many ideas like, patriotism which was the basic theme of movie, Bribe that how in india bribe is terribally gose through all people vains when that outsider came and aamir khan gave bribe to police man and she asked that what was that then character of karan said that "welcome to India" which means it is normal here, then discribe rural life of punjab in whole song "Rang De Basanti" we find rural background of punjab.

We saw many movie describing Freedom movement of Gandhiji and all But we remain unknowing about another movement which took place in parallely was "momement of violence".  Title of the movie itself suggest whole thing in it. "Rang De Basanti" which literally means "paint me with the colour of spring" but symbolical meaning is "color of secrifice". They gave name to their team was "masti ki pathshala" that also symbolically presented. Also gave one another idea that "charity beguns at home".And also gave one line that speaks in end that is,

We know Bhagatsinh as freedom fighter and find him ideal figure but so called society always gave half truth. Leading figure is to be perfect and perfect with society's mind set so they always tell things which they find right, in reality Bhagatsinh was pure atheist and believe things which one can see or feel but we never came to know about this angel of him. he is not believer of god. also in this movement history neglected or don't gave importance to miner characters which here presented beautifully. and also Muslim was also took part in freedom fight coz india is not only Hindu's country they also have right on it. their was many Muslims also in freedom fight. That charactes like, Ashvak-ulla khan, Ram Prasad Bismil, Durgavati Devi etc..

This movie contains post colonial view point. even after freedom we can find that country is not free from many things like bribe, corruption, etc.. we can find in this movie one aspect that even after freedom we need one white man to patch up between us as we can find in this movie also that even in between us when the characters are quarreling white girl being bridge and got them together.

So in short, it is worth watching movie. We are grateful to sir that he suggested that to us..

Thank you.
